Beach chair (German "Strandkorb") etiquette

Vacation is just around the corner and this year you've decided to really enjoy yourself on the beach: a beach chair is a must. On the way to the perfect beach chair vacation there are a few tips that we would like to give you on the way to make your stay as pleasant as possible for you and your beach chair renter:

  1. Moin & Bis Moin

During the high season, beach chair renters usually work in a place where there is an unimaginable amount of activity. And even if a Nordic "Moin" may seem a bit harsh at first, your landlord will be happy about a friendly greeting and farewell!

  2. The beach chair stays in its place

You may turn it and recline it as you wish, but beach chair renters usually have a fixed seasonal arrangement to guide them in the number of baskets. Also, there should be enough room for walkways and distance from your neighbors. So before you move it far, ask at least once.

  3. Broken

If something is broken on your beach chair, please let us know. Maybe it can be repaired at short notice or you can exchange the beach chair again. And even if it doesn't bother you much, it is only helpful for your beach chair renter if you let him know in a friendly way.
If you are responsible for the damage, always remember: "Honesty is the best policy!" Usually, both your beach chair renter and you are insured.

  4. Key

As a rule, you will receive a key from your beach chair rental company. In order to prevent loss of keys, no further keys will be handed out. Please make sure to keep both the lock and the key in a safe place and protect them from sand. If the key does not fit right away, do not try to force the lock out of the beach chair. Maybe some sand got stuck in the lock or you were accidentally given the wrong key.

  5. Return
Please return your beach chair without garbage, cigarettes, (deposit) bottles or broken toys. You will always find a trash can at the top of the house. Retract the footrests, fold back the sunshade and the drink tables.

  6. Smoking

Many beach chair renters now attach great importance to the fact that cigarettes no longer disappear in the sand to be found by children while digging. So feel free to help yourself to the beach ashtrays that are usually available. Ideally, you should smoke outside the basket so that it doesn't catch the smell or accidentally create burn holes from falling ash.

  7. Recline
When you want to recline your beach chair, gently pull the metal handles to the left and right of the backrest with both hands. Be careful not to underestimate the weight! Carefully let the basket slide back.

  8. Towel obligation
When you sit in the beach chair, it is hygienic to always put a towel underneath. For this purpose, you will often find a taut line in the beach chair, in which you can stretch a beach towel or towel.

  9. Objects

If you decide to leave items in your beach chair during longer beach chair rentals, please remember that the rental company is not liable for theft, damage or loss of your valuables. It is not uncommon for items to be stolen from locked beach chairs. Therefore, only leave things behind that are dispensable for you.

  10. Beach shells

As practical as they are, they are disruptive to your view of the sea. For those who pay for a place in the sun and a supposedly undisturbed view of the sea, the obstructed view through beach shells can certainly cause a bad mood. On some beach sections, therefore, beach shells are actually already banned. If you are allowed to set up your beach shell, it is part of good coexistence to place it in the gaps of the visual axis of the beach chair set-up.

  11. Dogs

While dogs are tolerated on the beach, they may not be wanted in the beach chair itself. Therefore, find out beforehand what your four-legged friend is and is not allowed on the dog beach.

  12. Noise

Music box, baby crying, hearty laughter, soulful snoring, games(s) on the beach - countless noises that can be both normal and annoying on the beach. And in a confined space, they are also simply part of it to a certain extent. If you are sensitive to noise, you should go to the beach away from the center. If you want to be unhindered "loud", this is best at highly frequented beach sections.

  13. Nudist beach sections
Oops, while you are walking along the beach, it suddenly happens. You've unsuspectingly ended up at the nudist section. Before you turn red, relax! Only for you this situation is uncomfortable right now, because for nudists being naked is completely normal. Whether it's for a streak-free tan or the absolute feeling of freedom, you now have three options. You turn around, you take off your swimsuit or you go straight to the nudist end.

  14. Holes and castles
Beach chair renters:inside are liable for their beach accesses. As much fun as it is to build holes and castles, they are dangerous when walking on the beach at dusk or at night. Enjoy the sight during the day and let your children participate in "destroying" the castle or filling the hole.

  15. Seagulls
Like pigeons, seagulls are quite brave animals that quickly get used to being surrounded by people on the beach. And they know exactly how good the chips in your pocket or the bread on your towel taste. So please don't leave your food unattended or push leftovers into the sand if possible.
