Meanwhile, many places on the Baltic Sea have understood that limited mobility should not exclude the beach vacation. On the contrary, there are many concepts that allow beach vacations even with a wheelchair, walker or stroller.

What should I look for when traveling to the beach?

If you are somewhat limited in your mobility, it is worthwhile to think about how you will get to the beach in the first place before you arrive. In my case, with 3 toddlers (twins aged 1.5 years) and a 4-year-old, I have at least one stroller or the twin stroller with me and can therefore neither use stairs, nor sink in the sand at the top of the beach entrance, to then possibly seek out the last beach chair at the far edge. So that I am not surprised on the spot, I always look first whether there is a barrier-free beach section. On Strandscanner.de we have therefore built in the filters "barrier-free access" and "blind access", so that you don't have to search for it for a long time.

In which places are there barrier-free beach accesses at the Baltic Sea?

The list of beach sections with barrier-free access is growing. We are currently aware of the following beaches:

If a beach section is missing, please let us know at [email protected], so that we can complete the list.

Barrier-free beach chairs and beach wheelchairs

Not only the beach accesses, but the beach chairs themselves, are now available barrier-free. The special feature: a bay for the wheelchair, which gives a real beach feeling next to your loved ones. In the spacious 3-seater you can drive over a small ramp into the beach chair and enjoy the view of the Baltic Sea.

If you want to get into the cool water, you can now often borrow a beach wheelchair free of charge. With the extra large tires, you can easily move across the sand and thus easily access the water. The DLRG, for example, offers beach wheelchair rentals almost everywhere.

Further tips

If you are physically handicapped and have proof of this, you should carry it with you, because you can usually get a discount on the tourist tax, which usually has to be paid.

On Strandscanner.de we also show accessible beach chairs, because not always the whole section is barrier-free, but may offer a small number of easily accessible beach chairs near the access.

If there is no other way, we connect the children's equipment right at the top of the beach access and no longer drag it all over the sand. During nap time, we then walk the boardwalk and relax on the boardwalk or in the café.
